Project Trackday

What is Project Trackday?

Project Trackday is a chronicle of my progress as I search for, purchase and prepare a car  for the track.  I will take suggestions from friends and the internet community who have already gone down this path to learn and pick up as much as I can along the way.  If you have tracked or are familiar with vehicle modifications, please feel free to chime in on any of the discussions in the posts.  I’ll try to keep frequent updates on the progress.

The budget for Project Trackday 1.0 is $4,000 USD, which includes the cost of the vehicle, parts, maintenance and preparations to get it ready for the track and safety gear (helmet, gloves, etc.).  COMPLETED 10/28/2009

For season 2, the budget for Project Trackday 1.1 is $1000 USD, which includes maintenance and upgrades to the vehicle.

A bit about myself:

My name is Jimmy and I am currently a graduate student at Purdue University.  I am a huge fan of motorsports, especially Formula 1, and have always wanted to work in the field of motorsports.  I have no prior experience with doing anything like this, so this will be a learning experience.  The reason I’m doing this is purely for entertainment.  I’m not looking to become a professional race driver or anything!  I believe that motorsports don’t need to be ridiculously expensive, and it is not impossible to have some fun in this current economy.
